Sr. Presidente
He had aspirations to be president. But he had one “small” problem. His name was Pablo Escobar and Colombia was not ready for a drug dealer president. When he decided to run for a seat in the nation’s congress, He was making billions from the drug trade. He actually made it onto Forbes’ magazines international billionaires list 7 years in a row. His power to change his country was financially within his reach but virtually impossible on the political front. Pablo Escobar served two masters. The desire to make political difference but he was also hooked on making ridiculous profits from his well oiled drug machine.
Being stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea in one’s conscience is a tough place to be. It is truly impossible to serve two masters, one will always win. Here’s a question though. What happens when we serve one master with two motives? When Jesus called out the pharisees on the true reason they had long public prayers or gave large donations to the local pre-school he saw right through their actions. And like a samurai’s katana cut straight to the rotting bone of their ulterior motives. If our motives are disingenuous, if they contain 1% impurity of selfishness, we...are fooling...ourselves. The first couple times we may not even realize. But the longer we do it, the more obvious the true reasons for our actions become. Let love be the prism through which we refract our actions into the world. Hiding our thoughts in Him will make our actions pure. Unlike those of the wanna-be, Senor Presidente.

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. - Matthew 6:24
