Show Me the Grave

If there was one place Jesus called home it was Bethany. The home of Mary, Martha and Lazarus was the one place he could truly relax and feel as though he was truly among friends.

But Jesus was about to do something that, on the surface,  seemed to betray that connection, that trust. Lazarus got deathly sick while Jesus was on the mission field. Mary and Martha sent for Him. The messenger said, “Lord, behold, he whom Thou lovest is sick.”  Now the response of the Son of Man was quite interesting.

“This sickness will not end in death. No, it will be for God’s glory, so that  God’s Son will be glorified through it”. Jesus waited two days. Lazarus died. Middle Eastern custom at the time and still today required that the body be immediately buried.

When Jesus finally arrived the thought was: “If you were here, he would not have died.” By this time, the power Jesus had to heal was very well known. But Jesus had a deeper mission, to glorify God the Father through the resurrecting power of the Son. To establish a high watermark of divine power.  He asked, “Where have you laid him”. So, Jesus went to the tomb and with three words, “Lazarus, come forth”, he whom was cold, stiff and lifeless walked out from the realm of the dead.

There is probably no human experience more heart rending than watching someone we love die. There are times though, God wants that which we love to pass away.
Wait, what??!!
There are many circumstances where certain emotions and connections need to be allowed to die. God cannot resurrect to NEWNESS of life that which is not dead. Somethings can be healed but sometimes, other things have to be allowed to die. So when He asks, “Show me the grave”, I pray you are ready to do so. Because His glory is about to manifest itself in ways you never imagined.

You have been with him for so many, years and no proposal. Can God really send someone else, even at this time.
Let it go, let it die.
The job you feel trapped in for a decade but afraid to leave.
Let it go. Let it die.
The relentless physical abuse.
Let it go, let it die.

Do not fear what you will no longer have. Because what comes from the grave will be greater than what you let die.

Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. - John 12:24
