Rain Ready

That phase when your entire life pivots on the results of these crucial exams at the end of the 11th grade. I was in high school at Jamaica College and I had an CXC exam that I could not miss that morning. That day when I left out from Old Harbour for Kingston, it was overcast. That phase when your entire life pivots on the results of these crucial exams at the end of the 11th grade. I was in high school at Jamaica College and I had an CXC exam that I could not miss that morning. That day when I left out from Old Harbour for Kingston, it was overcast. By the time I was in my bus, the rain was pouring buckets.

No matter what though, I had to go, could not miss that exam. The bus got to a point where it could not cross a massive pool of water. That’s right, the bus could not cross it. We were still in St. Catherine, did not even reach Spanish Town, many miles from Kingston. And yes, these were the ancient days before  Highway 200. What do I do? Turn tail and go home…or…try my best to go do this critical test? As I pondered, an 8 cylinder, 12 wheeled solution was about to cut through my personal Red Sea. Some of the passengers scrambled into the back of the truck. I followed swiftly as though I was paying for a seat. We were on our way! I was little late but was still able to complete the exam and yes I passed it! As I reminisce, I wonder, is my spiritual life “rain-ready”. Am I prepared for a series of unfortunate events?

The tears and the rain that God allows into our lives are sent to soften our hardened clay so that He can renew, refine and redefine you. When you are caught in what seems to be an unsolvable situation, you are actually in the midst of a supernatural battle. A conflict that can never be totally and absolutely resolved by just human effort. Only a supernatural force can fully resolve it. Without laying it totally on the altar of prayer and giving God all control through absolute obedience, you are only prolonging the effects of the conflict on your life. Ask yourself this…Are you really ready to really let it go? The only way you will be rain-ready is if you are willing to release your baby fingers from that prolonged clench that you are now probably bleeding through, and give full control to Him. He will part the waters, no matter how deep they be. Its time to get rain-ready.
