Put a Ring on It
Here she was looking at pictures that made her heart melt all over like the first time his hazel eyes locked into hers. It was the fifth anniversary of her meeting the most incredible man she could imagine. Everything so far has felt perfect. Brilliant, independent thinker, a smile that could make her glow for days, not too shabby in the kitchen at all, career minded and driven beyond belief, his family is awesome, finally of course a heart for God and a mind for ministry. Just one small, itty, bitty, problem. Yes you guessed it, those 5 years are how long they have been together and he’s yet to put a ring on it. As that thought crossed her mind, the rain clouds of regret started to sweep the plains of her soul. She stopped swiping through too many albums, from too many years that had her last name unchanged. There was no real reason why she could see him not wanting to close the deal. They were both past 30. She had wrapped up her graduate studies 2 years ago and they were both right here in the same country doing quite well in their respective jobs. The questions at this point started to pull significant moisture through her eyes. The forecast was now, annual birthday dinner with a 90% chance of tears.
How long have you been in love with God and not put a ring on it? What do mean? You swing back saying. I’ve been baptized for over 20 years! Been on mission trips all over, conducted countless Bible studies, opened up my home for endless after church lunches and yes sung AND preached countless times. What do mean?? “Have I put a ring on it”???. I KNOW HIM!
But does He know you?
How transparent have you been when you talk to the King? Has your prayer life been reduced to an echo-chamber of requests and shallow tweets of praise? Of course He can read our thoughts and even predict the actions we will take but um…How deep into your daily choices does His will percolate. How long have you been dating God yet refuse to marry Him? Can you remember the last time His voice had a distinct ring in your ear? Or have you been so focused on doing all the visible things to make it appear that you have let Him in. Ring, ring…truth calling. Oh sorry, voice mail again.

Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’ - Luke 13: 26-27
