Near Miss

It was the dead of night and as much as I wanted to get home,

It was the dead of night and as much as I wanted to get home,

I was trying really hard to remain under the speed limit on the highway. Then out of nowhere, my lights pickup a little dog in my lane, instinctively I swung away, then the next thing I see hurtling at me is the guard rail, I swung back in. Disaster averted, thank God.

I was trying really hard to remain under the speed limit on the highway. Then out of nowhere, my lights pickup a little dog in my lane, instinctively I swung away, then the next thing I see hurtling at me is the guard rail, I swung back in. Disaster averted, thank God.

As I thought about the near miss. I realized if I was going just 5 miles per hour faster I would have definitely either hit the dog or the guard rail, easily. I thought back to the dog, sniffling around on the highway, totally oblivious to the immediate threat to its life.

No matter how many problems, disasters and challenges that come into our lives I shudder to think of all of the ones God has averted from their heat-seeking path to totally destroy me and those I love. Many times, there I was, in harms way, having no idea what was coming at me. Sometimes, the minor challenges we face are actually bigger problems swerving away from us that would have been total and catastrophic loss. As my mother says, “What don’t cost life, don’t cost nothing.”

Guard your life, your actions, your thoughts in God, everyday. Abide in His love and your steps will be forever ordered in his Word regardless of whatever may be coming straight at you in the dead of night.

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.- Psalm 91:11-12
