Hubris
In a regular fist fight though, you will realize a very interesting fact. At any given time, the person throwing the punch (especially if it’s a no holds barred straight punch to the head) is actually at their most vulnerable moment. Almost all resources have been shifted to an offensive move leaving the puncher open to an easy attack if the punch misses.
Since being expelled from heaven, the enemy has sought to gain the upper hand on God. To prove that the Heavenly Father’s government was unjust, evil and corrupt. Not worthy of worship. So when Jesus came to earth satan saw an opening, a possible advantage. Kill Jesus but pretend he had nothing to do with it. He tried as a baby, Herod’s plan’s failed. He had multiple riots incited against Him. Failed. Only Jesus’ death on the cross would succeed. This was the devil’s all out punch. The head shot, no holds barred rifle shot to the cranium. lucifer was intent on killing Jesus…for eternity. This attack though would show the devil at his most defenseless and prove to all sentient beings just how unlike God he is. Betrayed by his hubris and pride, the devil took the bait.
Pride is a throne we have built on smoke. Hubris is a kingdom we rule with mirrors for walls. When we are filled with the hot-air of self any wind can blow us away especially if we are attempting to throw a punch. Let us be mindful and circumspect when we seek to establish, boundaries, rules and authority outside of the realm of humility. Pride may be filled with hot air, but it has the density of lead and gravity will not be kind to those who walk around with too much.

But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. – Daniel 5:20
