From Scratch

The other day a Jamaican friend of mine was telling me about her ability to make apple pie from scratch.

At first I was quite impressed then I thought, let me challenge her a bit.  Especially given the fact I am not half the cook she is. So I asked, can you make the baking tin from scratch too? After a silence of about 2.5 seconds, she goes. “Sure, I have my aluminium!”. To which I responded, “No dear, start with the bauxite! Start with the dirt!”

As believers in the intelligent design of earth, the universe and all that in them is, we many times take for granted the fact that God made ALL of what we see. Every last molecule was made from scratch. From zero. Ex nihilo. Nothing was His raw material. He simply spoke and it not only came into existence, it was perfectly made.

The average summer blockbuster movie from 1994 to 2013 has 588 people in the credits. If we were to go over the edge, say ahh, Iron Man 3. That was the first movie to have over 3000 people credited for making a film. The credits for the universe? 

GOD. 

It is beyond our imagination, perception or abilities to even conceive how possible it is make something out of nothing…alone. Even if it was one, single solitary baking tin. The truth is, we take God for granted at all the wrong times. There are moments though when He actually commands us to take Him, His word, His creative, recreative power and His ability to save…for granted. Because from the beginning of time, before even the earth was made His love was granted unto us, before He made us…from scratch.
