Contagion

The rebellion was spreading.

The rebellion was spreading.

The coup attempt was far underway and Cuba’s revolution led by Fidel Castro’s July 26th Movement was attempting to overthrow the authoritarian government of President Fulgencio Batista. It took six long years but after a roller-coaster campaign, Fidel’s forces marched into Havana and seized power.

A long time ago, actually, before time even began. In the most unlikely of places, another revolution broke out. The antagonist in this rebellion though, lost the war, and was banished from heaven forever. Though his access and powers were limited, he found a way to spread his virus of selfishness to Earth’s first rulers, Adam and Eve. So potent this virus it took no less than one generation for it’s true sinister power to reveal itself as our first parents buried their son Abel after being murdered by his brother Cain. Since these opening moments, sin has proven to be a most insidious contagion. Affecting billions of people from generation to generation. It has grown to such horrible proportions most humans today do not even connect it to the original ground zero event in heaven (not Eden) or even its first general, lucifer, “the lord of light”.

This war replicates itself everyday within us all. We fight a battle in our frontal lobes where the enemy seeks to gain ground little by little. Yes, this is a battle of hearts and minds as the devil seeks to turn as many of us against the Triune Ruler of the universe. It is a disease for which there is only one antidote. The symptom, sin; the cure, salvation. Salvation through the Second Adam, Jesus Christ. As the war rages between the opposing banners of daily choices who will win your heart today? Whose flag will be unfurled on the walls of your mind? Which king will be in residence there? Will you stop, or help to spread…the contagion.

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
